TALIM’s annual April Seminar will take place at the Tangier Old American Legation, Thursday, April 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The April Seminar, in partnership with the Office Cherifien des Phosphates, will be open to the public with free admission. It will address the theme, “Tangier April 1947 – Two Speeches: Independence and Women’s Education.” Honoring the 70th anniversary of King Mohammed V’s historic Tangier speech of April 9 and Princess Lalla Aisha’s speech of April 11, the seminar will feature the following speakers:
TALIM President Dr. Dale F. EICKELMAN, Professor Emeritus, Dartmouth College (USA);
Dr. Bernabé LÓPEZ GARCIA, Professor from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, on the theme, “The Events of April 1947: A Spanish Perspective”;
Dr. Assia BENSALAH ALAOUI, Ambassador-at-Large of his Majesty King Mohamed VI, on the theme, “The Primacy of Education, Especially of Women, in the Progress of a Nation”;
Dr. Karim BEJJIT, Professor from Abdelmalek Saadi University, on the theme, “US-Moroccan relations in the 1940s: A New Beginning”;
Dr. M’hamed BENABOUD, Tetouan Asmir Association, on the theme, “Princess Lalla Aisha’s Historical Speech in Tangier of April 1947 in the Light of the Varela Archives”
The Seminar will also include a special screening of a short documentary film made by history students from the American School of Tangier.
